There are two types of implant dentures: Over-dentures (left) and hybrid dentures (right).
An over-denture is considered an implant-retained denture and may have modifications to the shape and coverage, compared to a traditional denture. An over-denture utilizes implant abutments coupled with nylon snap-closures that allow the patient to remove the denture, while giving more stability than a traditional denture.
A hybrid denture is considered implant-supported and is not removable by the patient, but may be removed by the dentist for routine cleanings and any necessary maintenance of the denture. Depending on each patient’s specific needs and the complexities of the individual case, if indicated, either implant retention or implant support can make a significant difference in quality of life.
