Weakened Tooth Structure
Weakened Tooth Structure: Is present in teeth with large fillings. Often these teeth will develop cracks or fractures. If a tooth has a large filling and a crack, there is a high risk that it will break within five years. If a tooth breaks, minimally, it will need a crown. If the break goes below the gum line, gum surgery may also be needed. If it effects the nerve of the tooth, a root canal and crown will be needed. The fracture may be so deep that the tooth has to be extracted.
